Many people wonder how to tell the difference between intuition and anxiety, and assume intuition becomes stronger during difficult or stressful times. In my experience working with intuition and mediumship, the opposite is often true.
Intuition is usually quiet. It typically feels calm and steady. It may show up as a quiet sense of clarity, a subtle feeling in the body, or a simple knowing that doesn’t demand immediate action.
Anxiety, on the other hand, often feels pressured and intense, pushing us to figure something out right away. When our minds are filled with worry or urgency—whether it involves personal challenges or global issues—our nervous system becomes focused on scanning for danger and trying to solve problems quickly. The noise in our heads and the feelings in our bodies can feel loud, urgent, and repetitive. Loved ones in spirit may also have a harder time getting our attention and helping us feel their presence because we are so distracted by the bigger energy of worry. Because of all this, anxiety can easily override the subtle signals of intuitive knowing.
The most effective way to reconnect with intuition is usually not to try harder, but to calm the nervous system. Taking a walk, breathing slowly, journaling about what is actually bothering you, stepping away from a stressful situation, or giving yourself space to settle can help quiet the internal noise. When the mind becomes calmer, intuition often becomes easier to recognize again, and it can also become easier to notice the presence and support of loved ones in spirit.
